James Dasinger

James Dasinger (Irish Travellers of Dale Farm, Dale Farm Housing Association): James received his Bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a regional focus on East Asia from the University of South Alabama. After graduating, he spent six years as a Chinese linguist and Intelligence analyst for the US Air Force. He was decorated several times for his service and held a Top Secret/SCI security clearance throughout his career. He was honorably discharged from the military with the rank of Staff Sergeant. On leaving the military he joined the Los Angeles chapter of Iraq Veterans Against the War and served as its Treasurer. At the time of his fellowship, James was a graduate student in the Political Science department at California State University, Northridge.

    Thanks for the comment. If you have any evidence (government reports, police statistics etc) that there is a higher rate of crime among the Traveller population than the settled population (of course, controlled for socio-economic status), I’d love to see it.

    And FYI: about 2/3rds of the Dale Farm population are UK citizens. Only the older generation were born in Ireland.

    Hope this clears some things up for you.

    I was happy to see that the people of Dale Farm won their right to stay ON THEIR OWN LAND. The treatment that these people received was absolutely a human rights violation. It is about time, in this day and age, that people learned to live together. There are good and bad in every culture, but this does not give anyone the right to treat people so badly. Sometimes I have to wonder at the utter meanness of people that call themselves human beings……causing such hurt and upset to people of any race, creed, color or religion is totally inhuman. My heart goes out to the people of Dale Farm, and I hope they finally find some peace.
